An Ultrathin Low-Profile Tightly Coupled Dipole Array Fed by Compact Zigzagging Baluns

In this paper, we propose for the first time a novel feed approach to tightly coupled dipole array (TCDA). Firstly, compact zigzagging microstrip feedlines are utilized as baluns our elements obtain wideband impedance-matching characteristics. Secondly, is designed on ultrathin substrates aiming at obtaining ultra-tight coupling between arms of two neighboring elements. Some irreplaceable parasitic pads developed and added radiating improve both impedance radiation characteristics TCDA. With these technologies, 12 × TCDA prototype designed, fabricated measured verification. The achieves an impressive bandwidth spanning 4–18 GHz S11<−10 dB. Its patterns realized gain verify its stable electromagnetic from 15 dB 25 within operating frequency band. efficiency around 91%. results show good agreement with simulations.
